World Environment Day 2025: Ending Plastic Pollution for a Resilient Future

Every year on June 5th, the world unites to celebrate World Environment Day a global platform for raising awareness and encouraging action for the protection of our planet. In 2025, the theme is “Ending Plastic Pollution”, a call to eliminate one of the most persistent threats to our ecosystems, health, and livelihoods.
At LANABLA, our work in the Lake Naivasha Basin is grounded in protecting natural ecosystems and empowering communities to live in harmony with nature. This year, we focus on addressing the growing plastic crisis that is choking our rivers, wetlands, forests, and farmlands.
Plastic pollution in our water systems not only endangers biodiversity but also undermines the efforts of communities who depend on these ecosystems for clean water, food, and economic activities. From microplastics in freshwater to plastic bags clogging drainage systems, the impacts are visible and urgent.
What We’re Doing
LANABLA, in partnership with local WRUAs, environmental groups, and youth-led initiatives, is working to:
- Raise awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution.
- Support clean-up drives in riparian areas and wetlands.
- Promote sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics.
- Advocate for stronger policies and enforcement to curb plastic waste.
Join Us
We invite communities, youth, women’s groups, schools, and local governments to take action — whether by saying no to plastic bags, organizing a cleanup, or pushing for better waste management systems.
Together, we can end plastic pollution and create a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient Lake Naivasha Basin.
Let’s choose restoration. Let’s choose nature. Let’s end plastic pollution.
