LANABLA Advances Sustainable Waste Management Policy Development in Nyandarua County

As part of the implementation of the ToPP Project, LANABLA participated in a two-day technical engagement focused on the review and drafting of the Nyandarua County Waste Management Bill and Draft Policy.
The engagement brought together LANABLA members and representatives from key Nyandarua County Government offices, including the County Treasury, Economic Planning, Urban Development, Environment, County Attorney’s Office and County Assembly Legal Office.
The two-day technical session provided an opportunity for stakeholders to critically review the proposed Bill and Draft Policy, share technical perspectives and identify areas requiring further strengthening. Particular attention was given to ensuring that the emerging legal and policy framework supports effective, sustainable and inclusive waste management.
A key consideration throughout the engagement was the integration of Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) principles into waste management policy and practice. Incorporating GEDSI is essential to ensuring that waste management systems and related decision-making processes respond to the diverse needs and experiences of women, men, persons with disabilities, youth and other potentially marginalised groups.
Through the ToPP Project, LANABLA continues to support participatory and inclusive approaches to environmental law, policy development and governance. The process seeks to strengthen legal and institutional frameworks while ensuring that environmental policies are responsive, equitable and inclusive.
The development of the Nyandarua County Waste Management Bill and Draft Policy represents an important step towards strengthening sustainable waste management, environmental protection, institutional coordination and inclusive governance within the County.
LANABLA remains committed to working with county stakeholders and communities to advance environmental governance and policy solutions that leave no one behind.
